The new Xtreme CNC CMM from Aberlink, to be shown at Southern Manufacturing 2018, boasts a non-Cartesian structure and uses linear motors and mechanical bearings. It offers a robust solution for undertaking precise inspection routines on the shop-floor. The cost-effective configuration ensures that it maintains its accuracy at very fast measurement rates, says the company, without suffering from the accumulative inaccuracies that occur in conventional thee-axis Cartesian arrangements.
To illustrate its high-speed, high-accuracy capabilities when used for both contact and non-contact applications, the Axiom Too CNC CMM will be performing inspection routines using both Renishaw’s RTP20 touch probe and Aberlink’s own camera system. Despite the former’s generous measuring volume, the machine’s compact design occupies a relatively small footprint, with the machine’s controller and all peripherals housed within its workbench.
Also being put through its paces will be the latest iteration of the company’s inspection software. In addition to touch-trigger probing and vision measurement, 3D CNC Inspection software Mk IV now enables the accurate, rapid scanning of features and profiles. In addition to enhanced functionality it has an improved CAD Comparison module and an easy-to-use offline programming from CAD software module.

Rösler is a family-owned company that manufactures a comprehensive range of shot/wet blasting, shot peening, mass finishing and washing equipment for deburring, descaling, cleaning, degreasing, polishing and super-finishing, .
To celebrate 40 years’ in surface preparation and finishing, the company is offering a free, machine scan, no obligation equipment inspection visit. In addition, exhibition visitors who register will be offered a free place on the one-day mass finishing or shot blasting training course (one per company).
In operation on its stand will be a centrifugal (high energy disc) mass finishing machine. This technology allows rapid finishing of smaller, robust parts. Metal removal rates can be eight to 10 times higher than in vibratory machines, making process times eight to 10 times shorter. It is widely used by component manufacturers for radiusing, cutting down/blending, colouring/burnishing, deflashing and cleaning.
Visitors can also ‘get up close and personal’ with the Gamma blast wheel and discuss how a blast machine ‘tune up’ has helped customers reduce processing times, gain up to 77% higher blast efficiency and benefit from optimised operating-cycles whilst reducing ongoing maintenance spend.
The company produces plastic finishing media, compounds and has over 60 years’ experience of producing ceramic media and has a portfolio of 15,000 products. It also offers a sample processing service.

Packaging specialist and manufacturer of timber and export packaging, Trafalgar Cases, will be at Southern Manufacturing 2018 to its custom packaging solutions.
The team is skilled in the design, manufacture and delivery of bespoke packaging solutions. For more than 30 years it has serviced a wide range of businesses across engineering, electronics, automotive and aerospace industries, to name a few.
Its riveted metal edged plywood cases are custom-designed and manufactured to meet exact requirements. Often used to house and transport large individual parts or multiple components, they ensure goods reach their final destination safety.
Battened plywood cases are particularly suited to shipping larger and heavier products that require a higher level of protection in transit. Custom-built to protect contents, they are suitable for fragile or high-value items.
Both riveted and battened cases are easy to assemble, can be flat-packed for easy storage, are available in large or small quantities, are stackable in transit and provide integral two or four-way entry pallet bases. They produced from heat-treated materials to meet current ISPM15 shipping regulations.
It can also provide custom-made internal fixings to protect goods. Plywood and softwood fittings can be CNC-machined and profiled to meet requirements and there is a range of foams and internal packaging as required.

HTE Plastic Joining Solutions, specialist in the design and manufacture of bespoke plastic welding and component joining equipment, will be demonstrating its PulseStaker technology at Southern Manufacturing 2018.
PulseStaker is suitable for joining any plastic components, says the company. High gloss or painted parts can be joined without any damage to surfaces and even chrome plated parts can be staked efficiently.
The company offers free guidance on correct joint design for the chosen polymer and advice on the most suitable assembly process. Applications range from contact lens production to vehicle interior door panels.
The company also offers Pulse Fusion, a technique to bond thermoplastic parts together. The method uses a resistance wire to create local heating which causes the two plastic parts to melt in the area of contact with the wire. Applying pressure pushes the two parts together to create a fusion zone around the wire. The technique can be used for vehicle under-bonnet fluid expansion tanks, domestic heating controllers and battery cases where tamper evident seals, strong gas and watertight joints are required.
The company is accredited to ISO:9001. Services include design, prototyping, manufacture, distribution and after-sales service for customers in the automotive, electronics and medical device industries around the world.

Established in 1973 and headquartered in Scarborough, Southern Manufacturing exhibitor Unison serves customers in aerospace, automotive, marine, oil and gas, energy and custom products.
In the early 1990s, it developed the first all-electric machines for tube bending and in 2014 developed a servomotor-powered machine architecture that can bend thick-walled piping with diameters of 225mm and more.
To be highlighted at the show, the EB1000 is a CNC-controlled, manually operated, three-axis CNC precision bending machine. It is suitable for producing high-precision tubular parts in a low-volume production environment and is popular in the aerospace and motor-sport sectors for small-batch production and prototyping, as well as for repair or reverse-engineering applications.
The ease of use is a particular feature, says the company – there is no complex user interface to learn, and operators can typically learn how the machine works within minutes.
